Dev Update – Shield Prototyping
Greetings Wardens
In this week’s update we will be taking a look at some of the new energy Shields prototyping and “Directional Shields” gameplay concepts.
Directional Shields
You may have been wondering if or when we were going to implement energy shields onto vessels. Well that wait is now over. During around Mid-game technology, you will be able to unlock shields for your vessels!
These energy shields for your vessels though are not just basic bubble or static side facing shields either, but are rather fully Dynamic Directional Shields! That means you will be able to choose any direction 360 around your vessel to bolster your defenses.
How to Choose a direction
Aligning your shield strength in a direction is simple. As we already have Turret mode available on all vessels, you can utilize the look direction from your turret mode and then press a keybinding (TBD) to increase your shield strength in that direction.
This easy to use function will allow you to strengthen your defenses against incoming enemy attack in that specific section, lessening the overall damage to the shields. But beware! Strengthening your shields in a particular direction lessens the strength of your shields in all other locations around your ship. In terms of gameplay as well, Solar Warden shields are based as a complete “bubble” around your vessel. If your shields in one area of your vessel fail, then the entire “bubble” around your ship will pop and all of your shields will go down, exposing your hull to enemy fire until your shield can recharge.
Also, this visible change of where you are allocating your shield strength will only be visible to you either when changing it on your vessel you are piloting, or when you are commanding vessels under your control.
When vessels are shot, the shield visuals will activate and show you if that area has strengthened shields or not.
God Speed, Warden!
As more gamplay additions are implemented, we will be sure to share more with you all!
Thanks again for tuning into our weekly update. We will see you all next week!
